Crunchy Taco Pie Recipe - Easy Meals (2024)

by Heather

When it comes to Mexican food, my husband would eat it any day of the week, or every day of the week if I would make it. I am not as crazy about it as he is, but I am a fan of quick and easy meals. This recipe for Crunchy Taco Pie is the best of both worlds for us. It is packed with the taco flavor that my husband loves, and it’s super easy to put together.

That is a total win win in my book. The icing on the cake … or Taco Pie .. is the Doritos layered throughout the inside of the pie. The teens LOVE Doritos, so much so that I think it may be an addiction!

Happiness for the whole family.

Making this Crunchy Taco Pie is as easy as browning up some meat on the stove top, and layering the tasty flavors of your favorite taco fillings to make this a hearty, comforting meal. Feel free to mix up the layers with other things you may like in your tacos. We tend to keep it pretty basic since the teens are still pretty picky. I will put some suggestions at the bottom for more filling ideas to try.

Here is how we made ours…

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef(or ground bison)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1/2 Cup water
  • 1 PillsburyRecipe Creations Crescent Sheet
  • 2 Cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 Cup Salsa
  • Doritos (11 oz bag)

Optional toppings:

  • Lettuce
  • Sour Cream
  • Guacamole
  • Black Olives
  • Cilantro

Directions

In a medium skillet, brown the ground beef just until no more pink is visible. Drain off excess grease. Mix taco seasoning and water into the ground beef. Set aside.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Lay the Pillsbury crescent sheet in a 9 x 13 baking pan, pressing to cover the entire surface and slightly up the side of the pan. Using a fork poke a few holes in the pastry sheet. Pop the pastry sheet in the oven for 3 – 5 minutes just to give it a head start on baking.

Remove the pastry sheet from the oven and begin layering your taco pie.

Start with a layer of crushed Doritos enough to almost cover the pastry sheet.

Layer half of the ground meat mixture, half of the salsa and half of the cheese.

Repeat layers once more. Doritos, beef, salsa and cheese.

Bake in 350-degree oven for 15 – 20 minutes, until the cheese has melted.

Top with your favorite taco toppings and enjoy!
