    Van Gerwen's inconsistent form

Michael van Gerwen has reached just one final out of the last eight Premier League nights.

That came two weeks ago when he clinched the victory in Birmingham.

Back in February he won three nights in a row. Can he regain that sort of level this evening?

    Humphries to change walk-on music

Luke Humphries has announced that he is making a major change.

Humphries has approached the oche to the tune of DNCE’s Cake by the Ocean throughout the campaign.

That song has been heavily criticised by supporters, who love nothing more than to join in as the stars make their way on stage.

Humphries has now revealed that last weekend was the last time he would be using the American band’s song as he vowed to change his walk-in.

And "Cool Hand Luke" said that he would be entering to new music at the Night 15 Premier League Darts event on May 9 in Leeds.

Humphries said: "This is going to be the last time that Cake by the Ocean is ever performed in European Tour history.

"It is going to be changed from Leeds Premier League so… as much as it’s not the best song in the world I do enjoy it so hopefully I can give it the send off it deserves, hopefully over the next three games."

    Smith warns Littler about conduct

Michael Smith has revealed that he warned Luke Littler to “CALM DOWN” so he doesn’t get stick in Liverpool after the teenager poked fun at the Reds after their hopes of a Treble went up in flames.

Smith said: "We say the right things to him. We don’t try to guide him off course obviously. If he’s doing something wrong, we say ‘listen calm that down’.

“We had a word with him the other week because he keeps winding Liverpool up like Klopp and everything.

“We said you’ve got Liverpool in two weeks, you’ve got to calm that down. We said you are going to get some stick on that stage.

“The only good thing he’s got, is that he’s playing Gerwyn Price. You don’t know whether he’s going to get it or not.

“Either way, one of them is going to get stick. I think Luke might be on the brunt end of it for winding theLiverpoolfans up.

“I’m a United fan. I wouldn’t dare to wind them up, especially when you know you are coming here. I have a laugh with my mate but I wouldn’t put it on social media. So he’s going to get some stick for that."

Humphries seeking first final in five weeks

Luke Humphries won three nights in a row in March as he took command of the Premier League table.

But he has now entered a slump, winning just two matches across the last four nights.

Two quarter-final exits have been followed up by successive semi-final defeats.

Can he arrest that slump this evening and get back to winning ways?

    You've Adder your chance...

"Snakebite" Peter Wright must triumph at Liverpool tonight - or his 2024 Prem hopes will be vipered out completely!

The Suffolk star, 54, has just four points from the first 12 nights.

And he needs to triumph in all four remaining Pem events to have any hopes of making the play-offs in May.

Wright is eighth and way bottom - 18 points adrift of the four qualifying spots.

Snakebite opens against fourth-placed Michael van Gerwen at Liverpool.

Not only does Wright need to literally win the next four nights, he also has to hope that MVG and Nathan Aspinall somehow fail to pick up any more points.

    Priced out of five-horse race?

Gerwyn Price probably needs a big night in Liverpool to stop the battle for a play-off spot becoming a five-man battle.

The Welshman is eight points adrift of fifth-placed Michael Smith with four evenings remaining.

But he's got Luke Littler in his opener tonight!

    'I'm a big-stage player'

Nathan Aspinall "hates playing at Leicester or Milton Keynes" - because he's a "big stage player".

Last week's Prem Night 12 winner is third in the table - far from assured of a top-four spot to qualify for the play-offs.

And he claims darts for him is all about atmosphere - as at Rotterdam last Thursday.

He told Sky Sports: "I'm a big stage player. I hate going to Leicester or Milton Keynes for the Pro Tours.

"I just hate them. But, you have to do them."

"I'm a big stage player. That's what you pick up the darts for the first time for, to play in these big arenas and big tournaments.

"I'm concentrating on the Premier League. I know, because of my ranking (fourth), I'm in every TV tournament this year.

"Granted, I've fell down the Pro Tour rankings and I won't be a seed, but I don't care. It is what it is, I don't worry about draws anymore."

Humphries 'proud' of battling demons in head'

World No1 Luke Humphries says he's "proud" of the way he "battled demons in my head" as he backed a campaign by mental health charity Chasing the Stigma.

Humphries helped the bid to remove stigma and encourage being open about personal mental health issues by revealing his own path.

The Englishman said: “Everybody’s struggles are different, but we all go through it and we all try and manage it as best as we possibly can.

“I’m proud of the way I battled the demons in my head.

"Speak to the people who are closest to you the most, they’re the people who are there in the toughest moments.

“It’s important to open up on the subject and talk about it because I feel as if it’s not talked about enough.

"I went out and spoke to the right people and now I stand here as a world champion.”

Van Gerwen urged to find 'right work-life balance'

Michael van Gerwen has been told to get his "work-life balance right" after "looking tired" in Rotterdam.

MVG has slipped to the fourth and final qualifying place in the Premier League Darts table after last week's wobble in Holland.

The Dutch legend opens against bottom-placed "Snakebite" in Liverpool tomorrow night.

But ex-Prem winner Durrant told Sky Sports: "Van Gerwen looked a little tired in Rotterdam but he's got the ideal draw to bounce back with in Peter Wright.

"Michael just has to get that work-life balance right, let his body breathe and go into the Premier League full of energy."

    No more Wright of passage?

Peter Wright is set for a final, fatal Snakebite tomorrow night.

The Suffolk star, 54, has just four points from the first 12 Premier League Darts nights.

And an unlucky 13th appears certain in Liverpool on Thursday evening - as he must win the last four nights to stand any chance of making the play-offs.

‘Snooker unlikely to find a Littler’

Mark Williams reckons snooker will struggle to find a Luke Littler-like inspiration for the next generation.

Wales’ three-time world champion reckons the consistency of the sport’s elite, notably Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump, makes it extra difficult for a wonderkid rival to emerge.

And O’Sullivan himself believes the absence of snooker academies in Britain also damages the chances of a teen mega talent to challenge the Crucible cream in coming years.

Williams said: “If you did I think it would be some youngster from China, the youngest we (in the UK) have got that’s got a possible chance is probably Jackson Page.

“He looks a little bit like Luke Littler, he’s 22 but he looks a lot older.

“He’s got a chance to do something similar to what Littler’s doing. But in snooker I think it’s very difficult, especially in the UK, but it would be nice to see.”

Asked if it was import, Williams told theSporting Life: “Yeah, it would be brilliant, but I don’t think you’re ever going to see it because of the standard the top boys are still playing.”
