Unicorn Hot Cocoa Bombs Recipe

This recipe is so much fun to make! I absolutely LOVE the influx of unicorn themed items everywhere, and seeing it in my favorite winter drink is fabulous! If you haven't seen this cute idea for a hot cocoa bomb before, I know you will love this idea. It's all about filling a little chocolate ball with the cocoa mix and fun extras. When you put this into a mug and cover with hot milk, it melts releasing the cocoa mix and added chocolate for a delicious rich version of hot cocoa.

When Should I Serve This Unicorn Cocoa Recipe?

Unicorn themed cocoa isn't something you would normally think about having every day. I might whip it up just because, but it's pretty common to find it used only for special occasions. Birthday parties, tea parties, or just a special day with the kids are always great for serving up this idea as part of the menu.

Since so many children love the unicorn theme, it's ideal to pair this with other unicorn items to create a cute party they will love. There are unicorn cupcakes, unicorn cake donuts, unicorn poop cookies, and unicorn pizza that make for excellent additions to serve with this unicorn hot cocoa bomb. Of course, no party is complete without a few unicorn themed projects. So, I would add this unicorn play dough, unicorn bookmarks, or even this cute little unicorn planter craft.

What Should I Put Inside These?

The best part of making a unicorn cocoa bomb is what you put inside it! Of course, the outside is part of the fun, but the inside is where it really is! Inside these, you can tuck away all kinds of fun surprises that your kids will enjoy watching float in their drink after the chocolate melts. Below are a few favorite ideas for this cocoa bomb.

  • Hot cocoa mix in different flavors like French vanilla, hazelnut, coffee, caramel, butterscotch, strawberry, or blueberry.
  • Colorful rainbow sprinkles or small candy pieces.
  • Crushed colorful hard candy or even chocolates like M&M's and toffee bits.
  • Marshmallows of all colors, shapes, and sizes.
  • Chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, caramel chips, butterscotch chips, or peanut butter chips.

Can I Make Them Different Colors?

Of course, you can make these any color you want! Since the base is almond bark, it's easy to dye a variety of colors, even a tie-dye look would work! Just add a few drops of your favorite food coloring and stir in before you add this to the round mold. I like the idea of using one color for the sphere itself, then a different color to add ribbons of chocolate over the top or to seal the sides.

Common unicorn colors are usually bright or pastel and include blue, yellow, purple, pink, teal, and gold or silver. For an extra special look, you could even brush edible gold leaf over the tops of the bomb before wrapping to gift!

  • An alternate method is a double boiler on the stove top.
  • If you don't want to use extra food dye, you can also use already dyed candy melts instead.
