In light of World Autism Awareness Month, we want to highlight employment information, resources and opportunities for individuals with neurodiversity 💡 At work, employees with neurodiversity may communicate differently and can sometimes experience challenges in social interaction, communication and executive functioning – a term used to describe mental skills used to remember and execute tasks. These challenges can often create barriers to employment for those with neurodiversity. When employers make simple adjustments and embed inclusive workplace practice, it can remove barriers for neurodiversity employees.Check out this insightful resource for more 👉 https://lnkd.in/gaWAxbMa #autismday#workplace#inclusive#neurodiversity

The team celebrated Harmony Day for 2024 with a delightful spread of food prepared by our culturally diverse team 🧡 This year's theme for Harmony Week is #EVERYONEbelongs - a theme that reminds us of the role we play in creating better, safer, and more inclusive workplaces 🤝 Diversity Council Australia Ltd's Racism at Work report, is an evidence-based framework for anti-racism action to help Australian workplaces effectively address racism. This is a crucial read and a helpful resource in understanding racism in the workplace for Harmony Day 2024 👇 https://lnkd.in/g3jPudsA

Justitia's team attended the Victorian Women Lawyers Dame Roma Mitchell Lunch celebrating International Women Day 2024 at the Melbourne Town Hall yesterday ✨ The theme of the lunch was ‘Count Her In: Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress.’ An engaging keynote featuring Kate Ramsay and a subsequent panel, shared the many ways we can make a difference in achieving change in our profession and our personal lives to create equality for women. This was the first year that Justitia had two tables, inviting clients and important collaborators who (fortunately for us) share our values. Congratulations Victorian Women Lawyers on a successful and uplifting event! 👏 #iwd2024 #iwd2024womenleadingtheway #networking #countherin

Justitia was delighted to support Victorian Local Governance Association and ALGWA VIC in its special International Women's Day event yesterday to launch the collaborative piece of research led by Professors Andrea Carson and Leah Ruppanner. The report is called “Breaking Barriers – a study of women’s participation and representation in local government”. ✨ The headlines are that whilst Victoria has its highest participation rate ever in local government (LG), work practices are not supportive of women who are at that stage of life where they are juggling jobs, family life and elected office. Furthermore, that incivility in LG has a gendered nature (whether emanating from other councillors or the public). Women are criticised for what they are wearing, their competency and are called derogatory names. In contrast, men are criticised for their ideas. The two key recommendations made in the report relate to creating an environment in LG that is more supportive of women. Firstly, in providing parents who require childcare arrangements (typically women) with financial support for childcare. Interestingly, surveys reveal that the public are not averse to supporting women’s participation through helping them financially with their childcare. Whilst men enter LG earlier and stay longer, this is not the case for women (the median age for women is 51, which is - higher than for men - and usually, most caring duties have reduced by this time for women). The report also recommended further resources be provided to regulators to address bullying, harassment and trolling. Other measures that are already in place and are proven to be very successful include mentoring schemes, formal support networks and training opportunities. If democracy needs many diverse voices in order to thrive, attract and keep candidates who reflect, advocate and represent its population, then this research provides a clear justification for action. Justitia is pleased to be associated with this work, particularly around culture change. A special thanks to the organisers and contributors including Kathryn Arndt, Denise Massoud,Kylie Spears and Tanja Kovac 🙌 #iwd2024 #womenempowerment #localgovernment #event
